I don't understand how people deserve my respect for trying to change their sex. By what calculation is that particularly respectable? Isn't it a judgment to be made individually and subjectively? Am I not free to respect a person by whatever gradient I choose and according to whatever criteria are meaningful to me? I don't even respect all people who are conflict-free about whether they're a man or a woman. So why should being confused confer more respect on someone?
