Unemployed for over month now. Learned this week that I'm not eligible for social safety net benefits such as SNAP and Housing assistance because "I made too much money this year". I've worked my entire adult life. Never used social programs before. I've been laid off at the WORST possible time of the year when no companies are hiring tech workers. I've worked my entire adult life, paid taxes, paid into the system and yet I'm not allowed to participate in the very programs I helped pay for! Meanwhile, we've got people out there who've lived on these benefits across multiple generations!! I get the feeling my government would rather let my family end up homeless and starve to death in the cold this winter than help us for a couple of months until I re-enter the workforce and get back on my feet. Please tell me this isn't so!!
